Every year, on the first Saturday in September, the mountain walk called
Kjerringsveiven is arranged. The route goes along the foot of the
mountain Gaustatoppen (1883 meters), located near Rjukan in
Telemark/Norway. The walk is Norway’s biggest, and gathers around 2000
ladies from all corners of Norway. We are also fortunate to have
participants from other countries. The walk follows a 9 kilometers’
route in wild countryside up to 1140 meters above sea level. All the way
you can enjoy the wide view of Hardangervidda, Southern Norway’s biggest
mountain plateau. The route ends at Selstali, a summer pasture that is
still operated traditionally, with cows on pasture.
The event rounds
off with an evening of culture in the Rjukan valley. We have concerts
with Norway’s best known artists, and an own “Kjerringtorg” (market
place) with original craft products.
Rjukan and its surroundings have
a lot to offer, e.g. cable car, and an exhibit of the exciting heavy
water sabotages during World War II – known from the film “Heroes of
Telemark”.
You are welcome as a participant in this year’s
“Kjerringsveiven” on Saturday 3rd September.
